Troubleshooting

When an answer doesn't come, start here.

#Claude

You see	Do this
Sign in to claude.ai in this browser	Open claude.ai in this browser (same profile, and in Firefox the same container) and sign in.
claude.ai wants a quick browser check	Open claude.ai in a tab once so it can finish its check, then retry.
usage limit	Your plan's limit is reached. Wait, or switch provider from the pill.
A model choice is ignored	Free plans can't pick models; use Claude (claude.ai's default).

#Your server

You see	Do this
Nothing answered at …	Is the server on, and is this computer on the same tailnet or network? For Hermes on its own, add `API_SERVER_HOST=0.0.0.0` to the server's `~/.hermes/.env` and restart `hermes gateway`.
Hermes didn't accept that password	The password is Hermes' `API_SERVER_KEY` from `~/.hermes/.env`, not your SSH password.
A server that worked stops answering	Settings → AI → Your server → Connect again. ChroMind looks again for what's there.

#Apps on this PC (Claude Code, Cursor, OpenCode)

You see	Do this
ChroMind Bridge isn't running on this computer	Run `node chromind-bridge.mjs install` once (copy it from the error). It starts with your computer from then on and pairs by itself.
… app not found	Install the app, or set `CHROMIND_CLAUDE_BIN`, `CHROMIND_CURSOR_BIN` or `CHROMIND_OPENCODE_BIN` and restart the Bridge.
Run: claude auth login (or `cursor-agent login`)	Sign the app in once, then click Check again in Settings → ChroMind Bridge.
Port 8765 is in use	A Bridge is already running. Or set `CHROMIND_BRIDGE_PORT` and change the Bridge URL in settings.
Cursor is slow to start	Each message starts the app (a few seconds). Claude Code starts faster.
OpenCode asks for a key	That model isn't free. Pick one marked Free, or add an OpenCode Zen key in its settings card.

#API keys and local models

You see	Do this
… rejected the key	Paste the key again in the provider's card and click Test.
… is busy or rate limited	Free models have limits. Wait a minute, or pick another model.
Can't reach … Is it running?	Start Ollama or LM Studio's server, and check the URL and port.

#The panel and pages

You see	Do this
ChroMind can't read this page	Browser pages, extension stores and the built-in PDF viewer are off-limits to extensions. Copy the text in, or use a screenshot.
Firefox: no page text, menus missing	Settings → Get started shows Allow access to websites if Firefox hasn't granted it. Click it.
YouTube answers without a transcript	The video has no captions, or YouTube changed its transcript panel. ChroMind falls back to the page text.
No selection toolbar	Check Settings → Behavior: the toolbar switch and the per-site list. It also skips text fields.
Continue in side panel opens a tab instead	The page blocked ChroMind's button frame, so the chat opened as a tab. It's the same chat; `Alt`+`Shift`+`A` opens the panel with it too.
